ACF mourns Nonong Libang’s death
ITANAGAR, Sept 07: Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) has expressed grief and sorrow over passing away of Nonong Libang of Jia Village in Lower Dibang Valley District on September one.
Nonong was the eldest son of late Kebuk Libang and served the state as Principal in various Govt. Hr. Sec. Schools during his service tenure. He was an ardent believer and follower of Jesus Christ. He actively worked for the welfare of the Christian community and wherever he was posted, he left his stamp, said ACF in a condolence message.
“He will always be remembered as a pillar of the Dibang Lohit Baptist Churches Association as well as the Baptist Church.”
“May his departed soul rest in eternal peace,” ACF prayed.
AAPYO extends support to ANSU
ITANAGAR, Sept 07: The All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Organization (AAPYO) has extended support to ANSU for its proposed 36 hours Capital bandh from September 12.
In a release, it said, we vehemently condemned the state government for undermining the demands placed by ANSU, which curtails the rights in a democracy.
Further questioning the state government why independent home minister is yet to be appointed, it said, there is no proper check on the increasing crime rate in the twin Capital.
Meanwhile, in another release, the All Capital Complex Market Volunteer Committee (ACCMVC) has opposed to it.
It said, we appeal all the business community of Capital Complex and the market welfare associations to support and cooperate with the district administration by opening their shops on the bandh day.
It said to ANSU, bandh call is not a solution but it is harassment to the daily wage earners. The vegetable vendors are the worst sufferers as their stock are ruined if not sold on time. And then their earning, which depends on their daily earning is lost. Why is it that the business communities are always targeted during bandhs and not the government offices?
ANSU should rather talk it out with the government, it held.
It further called on the district administration to provide enough paramilitary forces to the market area on the proposed bandh day.

ITANAGAR, Sept 07: All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) team led by its Working President Techi Tara and Secretary General Changma Tajo today visited the Gyan Mission Orphanage, Chimpu and distributed relief materials to the orphan children.
The kitchen, dining hall and store room of the Orphanage were completely burnt down in a devastating fire recently.
Meanwhile, Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun Medicine Specialist Dr Libe Nyodu along with his wife and Tade Lingi, Inspector C.M Security Cell Itanagar also visited the Orphanage and donated essential commodities along with some cash. Dr Nyodu also conducted free health check up to all the kids on the occasion. Gyan Mission authority expressed its gratitude for their act of kindness.
BWS opposes inclusion of parts of Byabang village in Palin urban area
ITANAGAR, Sept 07: Byabang Welfare Society (BWS), in its executive body meeting here on September four has opposed the inclusion of some parts of Byabang village in Palin urban area and demanded the authority to withdraw the notification issued to this effect.
“We do not oppose the urbanization of Palin, but we oppose the inclusion of some parts of our village without the consent of the people,” said BWS, in a release.
Expressing their willingness to remain with rural area and enjoy its facilities, the society urged the authority to take consent of the masses/affected people and land owners before taking any such major decision in future.
It further claimed that Palin does not fulfill the population norms/ criteria for urbanization.

ALSU asks Govt to constitute SFC
ITANAGAR, Sept 07: The Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU) has called for constituting State Food Commission (SFC) under National Food Security Ordinance 2013 at the earliest.
In a representation submitted to the chief minister, while hailing the state government for launching the scheme in the state, it said, it would be better and appreciable if the State Food Commission is first constituted which has its statutory power to ensure implementation of this scheme having quasi judicial power. The implementation of the scheme would go unchecked if State Food Commission is not constituted, where chances of pilferage and mismanagement cannot be ruled out.

National nutritional week
ITANAGAR, Sept 7: The Community Food & Nutrition Extension Unit, Ministry of Women & Child Development, GoI, Itanagar unit observed National Nutrition Week from September 1 to 6 at Namsai, in Lohit district, in collaboration with Namsai ICDS project.
Atleast 50 participants took part in a workshop with the theme ‘Food Security for Healthy Life’ organized at ADC conference hall, Namsai on September 2.

CM conducts aerial survey of flood-
ITANAGAR Sept 07: Perturbed by reports of flash floods in the eastern parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today dared the inclement weather by taking an aerial survey of the affected areas. He was accompanied by Chief Secretary Hari Krishna Paliwal and Secretary Disaster Management Kapa Kholie.
Reports had poured in of the Noa Dihing River raising over danger level and inundating portions of Dumpani and four other villages under Diyun circle in Changlang district. Atleast 13246 people of eleven villages have been reported affected by the current wave of flood.
Flying over Diyun for about twenty minutes, the Chief Minister landed at Diyun and took first hand report of the situation from local Legislator C C Singpho and officials of the district administration.
Flooding river water has triggered landslides in atleast seven villages while about 85 hectares of land have been submerged in five villages. Another five villages are under danger of being affected if the river continued to be in spate or proper preventive measures are not taken up immediately.
To a plea for adequate fund to tackle the situation urgently, the Chief Minister announced a sum of Rs 2.5 crore for emergency protection works, particularly at Dumpani village, and directed Secretary Disaster Management to release the same to the district administration by Monday.
Meanwhile, the district administration has provided ten thousand gunny bags to villagers for erection of temporary embankments/bunds at vulnerable locations. At least ten families living near the river bank have been directed to shift to safer locations and necessary assistance is being provided to them for relocation.
The Chief Minister then took an aerial survey of all affected areas at Namsai, Chowkham, Mahadevpur and Tezu in Lohit district, Roing and Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley and Mebo and Pasighat areas in East Siang district.
At Pasighat he was apprised of the flood situation by the district administration officials. The rising waters of Siang River have been causing concern for the people of the area and an alert has been sounded by the administration.
An official of the Border Road Organization assured the Chief Minister that the eroded approach to Siku Bridge on NH 52 between Pasighat and Mebo would be restored by this evening.
While appealing the people to remain vigilant, the Chief Minister requested the Union Home Ministry to send a team to survey and assess the damages caused due to the flash floods.
He also directed the district administrations to keep in stock enough ration items and medicines besides keeping men and machinery ready to tackle any eventuality.

AAA donates two Crested Goshawks to Itanagar zoo

ITANAGAR, Sept 07: The Arunachal Adventure Association (AAA) today donated two Crested Goshawks that the association’s members found from a jungle near Sagalee to the Itanagar Biological Park (better known as Itanagar Zoo).
Crested Goshawks are diurnal raptors found mostly in Asia. AAA chairman Tarh Eha and assistant general secretary Chukhu Mama found the baby birds during a trip to Sagalee on some work. After rearing the birds for some weeks, the duo felt that the Itanagar Zoo would be the right place for the birds.
Biological Park curator Raya Flago and veterinary officer Dr Sorang Tadap received the birds. Both of them appreciated the AAA’s noble act and informed that the raptors would be quarantined for some weeks for observation, and then released in an enclosure “if everything goes right.”
Eha is an advocate by profession while Mama is a lecturer at a polytechnic college.
Wildlife conservation work, however, is not limited to the domain of educated Arunachalees; there have been instances of illiterate villagers rescuing wild animals and birds that fall under Schedule I and II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Recently, one Dolang Ada of Old Palin in Kurung Kumey district rescued and donated a migratory bird of the plover species to the zoo. Dr Tadap informed that about 36 animals and birds have been donated in last few months.
“A sense of wildlife conservation has descended on our people. They are voluntarily donating animals and birds, which is a positive sign given the fact that Arunachal Pradesh is a hundred percent tribal state where animal hunting is commonplace,” Flago reflected.
Besides the sense of satisfaction over rescuing animals and rehabilitating them through
the wildlife authority, a donor can avail of free entry into the zoo if the rescued
animal falls under Schedule I and II of the Wildlife Protection Act -

ITANAGAR, Sept 07: The Apatanis proved their pacesetter nature with the Apatani Cultural Literary Society (ACLS) celebrating its silver jubilee in a befitting manner at Hapoli general ground here today.
When numerous tribal communities have been facing identity crisis with the young generations getting dissuaded from their rich cultural heritage under the impact of modernity, this marks a departure that Apatani intellectuals had realised the truth long ago and taken bold steps to prevent erosion of their cultural ethos.
Addressing a huge gathering on the occasion Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy said that Apatanis are known as one of the most industrious communities in the state who have excelled in educational field.
Apatanis have also made their marks in various fields including agriculture, horticulture, trade, literature, songs and dances while the Apatani Youth Association revolutionised tattooing as trade mark of the community, Sanjoy said

ITANAGAR, Sept 07: A team of Students Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA) executive members visited the Govt schools at Naharlagun and Nirjuli yesterday to take stock of the problem of the students.
During its visit the SUMA team interacted with the school Vice Principal M. Borang and School Management and Development Committee Chairman Techi Tara of GHSS Kangkar Nallah and Nirjuli Secondary School Headmistress M N Kamki.
According to SUMA press release, headmistress Kamki revealed the untold miseries of the school saying the school could not impart computer education to the pupils as some unidentified miscreants robbed 10 computers from the campus in April 2012.
SMDC chairman Techi Tara informed the SUMA team that despite submission of DPR related to school infrastructure under NLCPR several years back, still the file has not been seriously looked into, which had aggravated the situation.
Expressing anguish over the deplorable condition of schools, Education Secretary Bagjam Logun Rigio assured them to take up the problems faced by the teaching faculty and students with the higher authorities for necessary steps at earliest. He also requested the higher authority concerned to pay heed to the students’ demand for bus fare concession if it fails to provide bus service in all institutions, also interacted with the students communities, urged them to be dedicated in their studies.
General secretary Unti Umbrey blamed the State Govt for ‘deliberately’ violating the Right To Education (RTE). Expressing dissatisfaction over the abysmal scenario of schools wherein 80 per cent of the tribal students are studying, Umbrey demanded the Education Minister to take bold steps in order to improve the school infrastructure and education scenario. Convenor Pebo Gyadi vehemently condemned the concern governing body of education department for not taking keen interest for the welfare of the teaching faculty and the students, the release added. The release further said “he stressed the concern authority to mitigate the problems of the institutions on time and stated huge misappropriation of finances under the education department despite adequate money being paid by the Central Govt.” What would be the condition of schools in remote areas if the schools in and around the capital are facing such a pathetic condition, Gyadi said.

ITANAGAR, Sept 07: Arunachal Teachers’ Association of Upper Subansiri district celebrated Teachers’ Day in a grand manner with colourful cultural programme at VKV Kuporijo.
